Advancing Prisoner Justice, Human Dignity & Social Reintegration

At Citizen Journalists Network (CJN), we believe that justice must remain rooted in human dignity, accountability and the protection of society’s most vulnerable.

This conviction informed our engagement at the 2023 International Conference on Prisoner Justice, hosted by Earthspring International in collaboration with the Vincentian International Network for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (VIN-JPIC), Africa and Madagascar, and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

Held under the theme, “Enhancing Global Response for Prisoners’ Justice,” the conference brought together legal practitioners, correctional experts, humanitarian actors, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to examine critical challenges and opportunities for strengthening prisoner justice, particularly within the Nigerian context.

The discussions focused on issues including access to justice, rehabilitation, correctional reform, institutional accountability and the reintegration of former inmates into society.

Building Systems. Advancing Justice. Creating Impact.

For CJN, prisoner justice is not simply a correctional issue. It is a human rights, social development and institutional reform issue. A justice system must protect society while also recognising the dignity and potential for rehabilitation of those within its care.

We support approaches that encourage collaboration among policymakers, correctional institutions, civil society, humanitarian organisations and communities to build justice systems that are more humane, responsive and effective.

CJN is committed to supporting conversations and initiatives that strengthen institutions, amplify vulnerable voices and advance systems that protect dignity, promote justice and create pathways for meaningful reintegration.
