CJN Honoured for Advancing Social Justice, Community Inclusion and Rural Development in Nigeria
Citizen Journalists Network (CJN) has been honoured with a Social Justice Award at the Stakeholders Summit on Social Justice and Awards 2021, organised by Drum Majors for Peace, in recognition of its contributions to social justice, community inclusion and rural development in Nigeria.
The organisation received the Face of Social Justice, Community Inclusion and Rural Development in Nigeria Award, recognising its efforts to empower citizens to identify challenges within their communities and champion practical, sustainable solutions through grassroots engagement, civic participation and community-driven journalism.
The award was presented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Force Gender Coordinator and Adviser to the Inspector General of Police, DCP Margaret Ochalla, who commended initiatives that promote inclusive development and strengthen community participation.
The recognition underscores CJN's growing role in advancing citizen-led development by equipping individuals and communities with the knowledge, platforms and opportunities to address local challenges through collaboration, accountability and public engagement.
Reacting to the recognition, members of the organisation described the award as both humbling and encouraging, noting that it serves as further motivation to deepen CJN's commitment to empowering communities and promoting sustainable social impact across Nigeria.
Citizen Journalists Network also expressed appreciation to Mr. Nsikan Paul, Executive Director of Drum Majors for Peace, and the entire organising team for recognising and supporting organisations advancing citizen participation, social justice and nation-building.
The CJN zCo-Founder and CTO, Ibidun Adeleke dedicated the award to its network of citizen journalists, volunteers, community leaders and partners whose dedication continues to inspire meaningful change across communities.
"This recognition belongs to every citizen journalist and community advocate who chooses to serve with courage, creativity and purpose. You are the changemakers our communities need, and together we will continue building a more just, inclusive and prosperous society."
